Western vs. Eastern Forest Economists

Almost every year, two great events for forest economists are organized in the United States of America. First one, the conference of Western Forest Economists will be held at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins (CO), while the second – International Society of Forest Resource Economists (ISFRE), will be hosted in New Orleans (LA). This year, forest economists will have a really tough choice, and they have to use their ecnonomic theories and scarce resource (time) to select, which conference they want to attend, as both of them are organized in the exactly same time, i.e. May 30 – June 1, 2017

Western Forest Economists

The Western Forest Economists (WFE) is a non-profit group, which for the last 50 years, has hosted each Spring a three-day conference that focuses on forest economics. The conference is a great opportunity to discuss current research, issues, and trends. The WFE’s informal meeting format encourages discussion and interchange.

The WFE meetings bring together scholars and professionals at a collegiate venue to discuss topics and research related to forests and natural resources in the West. The 2017 conference will include a mix of research presentations, perspectives from private- and public sector forestry professionals, and opportunities for professional and scholarly networking.

This year the WFE 2017 meeting will be held in between May 31-June 1, 2017 at Lory Student Center, Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, CO.

The International Society of Forest Resource Economists

An annual meeting is held also in the Spring with presentations on financial aspects of timber management and utilization, timber supply and demand, international trade, forest policy, law and many other current issues involved in the business of forestry. An electronic newsletter is distributed to keep members up-to-date on the activities of others within the organization.

Similarily, to WFE, you can register and read proceedings of the past meetings at this great conference here: ISFRE

The 2017 Annual Meeting of the International Society of Forest Resource Economists (ISFRE) will be organized between May 30-June 1, 2017 in New Orleans, LA.
